Arguably one of the most unique and indeed historic properties to come to the local market in recent times.
This grade B1 listed former Victorian rectory at 16 Raceview Road, Brougshane was originally commissioned for Canon John Grainger, Rector of Broughshane following his appointment in 1869. Regarded as the father of the Ulster Museum, it is believed to have been based upon drawings by his friend the diocesen architect Thomas Drew. Completed in basalt and red brick and dominated by a crenallated tower, the property exhibits much of the gothic style both internally and externally which was popular in that period.
Used as office accommodation in recent years, the old rectory is ripe for refurbishment and offers superb potential to create a truly fine residence of distinction. Internally, many of the original features and also much of the accommodation remain providing an excellent base to work from. To the ground floor the spacious entrance hall opens to the two principal reception rooms complete with detailed cornicing, high ceilings, deep bay windows and original fireplaces.
There is also a study/family room, breakfast room, kitchen and rear staircase as well as the main staircase.
The first floor of the old rectory incorporates a front and rear landing providing access to 4 spacious rooms with vaulted ceilings and a small staircase leading to the turret room. The mature gardens surrounding this individual building provide a degree of privacy and yet the property is ideally positioned close to the village amenities and convenient to main arterial routes and Ballymena.
